Design and Preliminary Budget

The purpose of this phase is to clearly define the overall scope, direction, and parameters of the project. After measuring the property, your designer will produce a landscape design showing the elements of your landscape: patio, water features, walls, walkways, planting beds, etc. Your designer will also provide an estimate of what it will take to build your landscape, general information about construction methods, and some early suggestions for plants and materials. You and your designer will agree on the project parameters and move forward with the design process.

Please contact us for more information about design & planning fees. Fees vary depending on the size and complexity of your project.

Planning and Specifications

Once you and your designer have agreed on a preliminary budget and design -- it's time to focus on the details of your project: refining the layout, plant selection, choosing materials for hardscapes, soil testing (if necessary), inventory and analysis of existing plants, and coordinating bids from subcontractors. During this phase you will rely on Southview for our construction and budgeting expertise. Many questions will be asked and answered, new ideas will surface, and early ones might be scratched. In the end, you have a detailed landscape plan, timeline, and line item budget.

Your designer will provide details about design and planning fees during the initial meeting. There is no charge for the initial meeting with a designer.

Contract and Scheduling

You can decide at any time to sign a contract for construction. When we have received a signed contract and a deposit, you will be assigned a "place in the schedule." This is like getting a number at the neighborhood bakery.
During peak season, it can take three to four weeks from contract signing to installation; that's why many clients will sign a Construction Contract while they are still "tweaking" the Plan. If your project changes after you have signed a contract, the contract and payments will be adjusted as necessary. Payments can be made by check, credit card, or cash.

Financing option: Financing is also available with approved credit. Go to for more information.

Two Weeks Before Construction

By now your detailed Plans are complete and your Contract is final. Your designer will call to confirm your anticipated place on the schedule. Sometimes projects are delayed due to inclement weather; but we do our best to keep you informed and minimize surprises. Projects are scheduled and built in order, based on the time we receive a signed Contract and payments.

Our crews will never abandon someone else's project to start yours, and will never disappear from your project to go work on another.

Many projects can be built in just a couple of days. More complex projects may take a few weeks, depending on the size of the project (and, of course, the weather).

If your landscape includes a deck, pool, or other structure, we will help you obtain necessary permits and approvals.

Final Walk-Through

On the day of completion, your Southview project manager or designer will take you on a guided tour of your landscape, and provide information about how you should care for newly planted trees, plants, and turf. If you have any questions after your project is complete, just call us and we'll be happy to answer them.
