Swimming Pool Landscape in Inver Grove Heights, MN

Petite and Shady Pool

Secluded Backyard Forest

Built in 2007, this back yard used to be just woods and a yard, sloping towards the lake. And that’s what it would have stayed until the engagement! Suddenly, the race was on to transform their wooded lot into a landscape to host the big day. The final project combines patios, plantings, and a pool to create a backyard forest retreat.

Boulder retaining walls have a natural and organic look. These sturdy rocks hold tons of backfill to create a level surface for the patio and pool. Keeping with the natural theme, a stone staircase connects the pool to the patio.

Landscape Design Inspired by Nature

The upper patio is made from concrete, but looks like stone. Stamped with a realistic mold, this patio combines the look of stone with the versatility of concrete. Highlights and shading make this facsimile look more like the real thing. Curving edges add the the natural atmosphere of this backyard retreat.

Two Patios Are Better Than One

Why have two patios instead of one? While it is possible to create a single large patio with space for a dining room table, fire pit, and the kitchen sink – separating spaces by use gives each area a stronger sense of place and character. In this two patio design, a dedicated patio surrounding the fire pit gives everyone a front row seat to enjoy the flames and views of the lake. The dining patio closer is located to the house makes it much more likely that it will actually get used.

Three stone pillars make an organic, natural water feature

Sculptural water feature makes a striking impression

Stones can be structural or ornamental. In this design, a trio of stone plinths have been installed as a water feature. Even a small fountain can add plenty of interest to any yard. Here, the combination of elemental themes bring you deeper into nature. While the gentle sound and play of light engender a sense of calm and serenity.
