Working in partnership with members of the Builders Association of the Twin Cities and KARE 11, Southview Design renovated the landmark KARE 11 Backyard. This project won a Merit Award from the 2014 PLANET (Professional Landcare Network) National Landscape Awards of Excellence and a 2022 Bronze Award from the National Association of Landscape Professionals.
The backyard weather studio was launched in 1983.
The concrete landing and steps are now heated. No more ice or slipping!
Precision Decks and Lampert Lumber teamed up to build the bar. Wheeled sections can be configured for different shots.
The countertop was provided by Northstar Granite Tops, and the grill, fridge, and accessories by Warners Stellian.
Our Design-Build Process
The fireplace stone, "Canyon Creek" is from Montana. The fireplace header and surround, accent band, hearth, and patio is from Missouri. It's called "Blue Brown Flagstone".
The roots of an outdoor sculpture cling to the top a 2-ton boulder, which forms the "headwaters" of the water feature.
The capstone on the planters is Bluestone from Pennsylvania.
Permeable pavers filter rainwater.
