Each year, the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association honors exceptional landscape designs and installations. These two projects topped the list.
After buying lakeside property for easy access to the water for canoeing, these homeowners didn't want the enclosed feeling of a deck or handrails at eye-level getting in the way of any picturesque views. This disarmingly simple request belies the difficulty that had other companies saying "no way"– an 8 foot drop from the sliding glass doors to the ground.
Designer's solution? Building a series of tiered patios and retaining walls that gracefully step down toward the lake shore. View the entire landscape complete with fire pits, plantings, and night lighting.
After their first pool was ruined by groundwater seepage, this Vadnais Heights couple was ready to upgrade their outdoor living spaces. Now the centerpiece of their back yard, a new pool with eye-catching lighting reduces landfill by reusing some of their old equipment. Borrowed views from the adjacent wetlands create an idyllic back yard integrated with nature.
Distinctive New York Bluestone adornes the pool deck. The relocated hot tub is tucked away on a solid concrete base. This design is also a Contractor of the Year award winner: See the colorful plantings and artful details from the rest of this award-winning project.
