Simple and Shady

The saying goes, “It’s not what you have, it’s how you use it"– and that’s true for this St. Paul back yard! This family of four simply wanted more usable space. Originally, they had no deck and just a tiny, uneven, landing-size patio which meant friends and family guests had no place to sit.

Before Construction

Today, a larger, Holland paver patio accommodates grilling/dining areas and more. An inlay pattern change in the pavers highlights the dining area. Nearby, the soft sounds of water splashing down the basalt column to the river rocks at the base help to mask any neighborhood/alley noises.

Closer to the detached garage, another smaller patio right outside the door provides space for gardening or a sunny spot to catch some rays at just the right time of day.

Finishing touches… grassy areas on either side frame the entire yard and a larger landing and wrap-around steps at the back door provide easy access to the kitchen just inside.
