Hand-built Artistry of Natural Stone Walls

Made from natural stone, stacked stone walls have an Old World charm. They make a statement in the landscape. Each wall is unique and one-of-a-kind. They are typically constructed without mortar between the stones, but are strong and stable. Stacked stone walls have been know to last decades, even centuries.

What Your Designer Will Ask You

  • How will the wall be used? As a retaining wall, a seat wall, or a garden wall?
  • What kind of stone would you like?

The answers to those two questions will determine the height of the wall, whether or not a footing will be necessary, whether any mortar should be used, and the width of the wall.

By their very nature, natural stone faces are uneven. However, some natural stone is smoother than others. For example, Fond du Lac is smoother than a Highland stone. There is an art to fitting the stones together for that reason. Stone can be cut to provide flat faces. Cutting makes it easier and less time-consuming to install.
