Throughout the Twin Cities, Southview Design landscaping customers are enthusiastic about referring us to friends, neighbors, and family.
Landscape designers and architects from Southview Design share their knowledge and expertise with ideas, news, knowledge and trends.
Southview Design has worked with these clients for several years. For this project, they called us in to build a new patio off the kitchen, install outdoor lighting, and redo the steps and retaining wall.
The new and expanded walkout patio has room for both lounging and eating. Oversized Tupelo stone pavers make the space seem even larger.
Before: The upper patio was small, cracked, and failing.
After: Expanded Tupelo stone patio with an updated Fond Du Lac staircase
After installing the new patio, our crews reused the existing stone boulders to rework the walls and steps. Now the stone steps are wider, with a landing at yard level allows access to the yard and improves traffic flow between the upper and lower patio.
We added new plantings of astilbe, hostas, roses, hydrangeas, weigela, Echinacea, grasses, and Tannebaum Mugo pine (a compact evergreen with a pyramid shape). Outdoor lighting shows off this beautiful landscape at night and connects the upper and lower patios.
Before: Lower level patio needs a refresh
After: Rebuilt retaining wall and pool deck
The pool deck has been upgraded with a natural stone paver sitting area and a hot tub on the lower level. The fence has been removed and the retaining wall updated by reusing the original stone. The pergola was built by the industrious homeowner and their friends!

Designers and crews had to carve out a portion of a hill to create a level space for a swimming pool and hot tub in this backyard.
With amenities like a dining patio, fire table, and swimming pool, this landscape is ready for summer pool parties and fall evenings around the fire – or enjoying the hot tub.
This backyard blends modern and natural elements together to create a low-maintenance outdoor living space with a plunge pool, terraced patios, a fire table, water feature, and a outdoor great room.
