This homeowner came to our design team with an initial plan and, with their help, fleshed out the specs and filled in the details. From design to construction, this project took two years to complete. Starting with the blank slate of new construction, both the front and back yards have been tailored to the family's needs.
Flower gardens, night lighting, a paver driveway, and columnar maples make this front yard welcoming day and night. The pavers in the driveway and walkway match the paver selections in the backyard. Basalt columns on both sides of the driveway are highlighted by outdoor lighting.

In Minnesota we love to go "up North," but it's not always easy to get out of town. So, why not recreate the northwoods cabin lifestyle in your backyard? Anchored around a statement fireplace and rustic detailing, this backyard is designed for relaxing in luxury everyday.
Incorporating the homeowners' love of hills, mountains, and water, this grand fireplace patio would be at home in a Colorado ski resort. The unique firebox border was created from Montana stone and evokes a mountain range. Large format Bluestone pavers bring the steely blue waters of Great Lakes and mountain streams into this unique backyard patio.
The pergola is built from rough-sawn cedar, adding to the backyard's remote and rustic feel. To reduce the risk of slivers, the pergola legs were sanded smooth, while the upper beams retain their rugged texture.
Laminar jets add an element of playful whimsy to this sunken hot tub surrounded by a seat wall. Because it is lowered into the ground, the hot tub is more integrated into the design and easier to access.
An outdoor kitchen under the shelter of the upper deck is designed to the nines. The kitchen is fully equipped with granite countertops, lighting to illuminate the electrical outlets, bar-level seating, under-decking, a ceiling fan, and built-in gas grill.
A path from the front yard descends past a boulder retaining wall, water feature, and gardens of low-maintenance perennials, shrubs, and annuals. Natural stone is prominently featured in this design. The steps are saw-cut boulders (boulders sliced to make nice, flat treads), and the water feature is a basalt column bubbler.
