Throughout the Twin Cities, Southview Design landscaping customers are enthusiastic about referring us to friends, neighbors, and family.
Landscape designers and architects from Southview Design share their knowledge and expertise with ideas, news, knowledge and trends.
After seeing one of Southview's spots on KARE 11, these homeowners decided to call us to create a backyard for their young family to enjoy. Their new backyard is all about the homeowners’ vision: a modern environment to spend time with friends, enjoying food, drink, and conversation.
Small and crowded by the hot tub deck, this small backyard patio barely had enough room for a table and chairs – let alone a bench and a grill! Incorporating modern design principles of delineated spaces, strong linear forms, and a mixture of natural and manmade materials – this small backyard landscape provides ample space for entertainment and leisure.
Before: Crowded and Basic Patio
After: A Modern Backyard for Entertaining
This Bluestone patio adds much-needed negative space between the living area and the hot tub. Because the pavers are oversized, the expanded patio seems even bigger. The linear fire feature is off to one side rather than set as a focal point in the middle of the patio, thereby maximizing the patio space but still close enough to seating to feel the heat.
Our Design-Build Process
The stacked stone wall serves both aesthetic and functional purposes. As a border, it defines the space and gives the patio more of an “inside” feel. As a piece of furniture, it can function as either a side table or additional seating for entertaining guests. Iron Mountain wall stone was selected to match the existing retaining wall at the back of the yard.
