This is not our first summer heat wave and I am sure it won't be the last. Our plants and trees suffer right along with us in the heat. Here are a few things to look for and a couple of tips to help your landscape through this heat.
Southview Design was recently honored by the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association (MNLA) with multiple awards for Excellence in Landscaping.
A panel of practicing professionals in landscape education, landscape architecture and horticulture judged each entry based upon quality of design, appropriateness of materials used, and the superiority of the workmanship. Entries are not judged against each other, but rather against standards of excellence in the green industry.
Before: The lawn was mostly damp and unusable.
After: An elegant limestone staircase leads to an outdoor living room.
The judges recognized Outdoor Living on Every Level for its creative approach to a challenging space, resulting in a, “wonderful design solution for a tight yard space.” The project was also notable for “beautifully executed hardscapes.”
Before: "It's boring, ugly, and has no character," complained the homeowner.
After: A stylish backyard with multiple spaces for relaxation and activities.
Gem Lake Jewel was a winner due to “excellent design with flawless construction and execution. It is a natural extension of the residence, and residents and guests will constantly be drawn out to this space.”
Before: Steep slope, tight space, and drainage problems.
After: Northwoods-inspired design and no lawn to mow!
No-Mow Forest Backyard demonstrated a “high degree of difficulty given the previous condition, GREAT solutions.”
