This small backyard landscape design in Edina has open sightlines to neighboring properties. Before construction, the backyard was nothing but a deteriorating screen porch and an old concrete patio covered in Astro Turf. The clients envisioned their backyard becoming the center of outdoor activity as part of the larger remodel of the house.

This active family approached Southview during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The beaches and parks were closed, and they desired somewhere fun and safe to spend time together outdoors. The clients expressed interest in a backyard swimming pool but were doubtful one would fit in their small Minneapolis backyard. With a bit of creativity, Southview was able to bring the client's vision to life.

The homeowners approached Southview with two design requests—a swimming pool and ample space to entertain. Sloped and on a wetland, this Orono backyard presented many challenges. Nevertheless, Southview was dedicated to fulfilling the homeowners' wishlist while preserving the integrity of the wetland. The final landscape design checked all the boxes and more. This inviting backyard resort is now home to a large swimming pool, fireplace, lower-level patio, and entertaining space.
