Lakefront Firepit and Patio Design

Situated on Turtle Lake in Shoreview, this lakefront landscape design features a picturesque firepit, fresh rip rap, a new patio, and an elegant softscape design. While nature graced the home with a breathtaking view, the original landscaping paled in comparison. The problem? The modest patio extension off the back of the home didn’t lure the homeowners outdoors. Their dream was clear: an enjoyable place for gatherings with friends and family to savor Minnesota’s vibrant lake life.

Lilac Bluestone, Chilton edging, and glacial boulders for a natural aesthetic

The client's top priority for their lakefront landscape design was a patio and wood-burning fire pit close to the shoreline. The objective was to integrate the fire pit area seamlessly with the surrounding natural environment. Seasonal planters, designed by Southview Design's maintenance team, add the perfect pop of color.

Shoreline Rip Rap Installation

Rip rap was installed along the shoreline to protect it. The large rocks and stones safeguard the shoreline from the forces of nature while maintaining the ecological balance of the surrounding environment. Rip rap also contributes to the natural beauty of the waterfront area, providing a harmonious blend of function and aesthetics.

Working With Elevation

Different Spaces for Different Uses

The steep slope presented a design challenge, but the designer worked with it to enhance the overall space. The natural elevation is a divider between the two outdoor spaces, allowing the homeowners to enjoy two unique areas within their property. Up top is a spacious dining and grilling area. Down below is an intimate wood-burning fire pit for casual lakeside hangouts.

paver walkway installation

For the walkway, the clients opted for County "Discover" pavers in shade "Timeless".

Outdoor Living Rain or Shine

The upper patio is ideal for grilling, lounging, or simply taking a moment to appreciate the view. Laurel Sandstone tile is a distinctive separator, defining the dining patio from the other areas. Furthermore, an under-the-deck ceiling system provides essential protection from the elements.

BEFORE AND AFTER: Slide the bar to reveal the before and after

Before construction, the clients lacked a functional, enjoyable space to appreciate their beautiful view. Their outdoor living space has gained purpose, and the homeowners savor their time outdoors.

Three reasons to start now.

Maximize planting season

Plan now so when temperatures consistently hit 50°F, we are ready to plant. Spring planting lets your plants establish, beating the summer heat.

Best time for outdoor work

Now is the optimal time for grading and foundation work, setting the stage for the remainder of your project.

Enjoy summer to the fullest

Don’t miss a single day of summer—start your project early so you can cherish every moment.
