Backyard Patio Design

These Eagan homeowners enlisted Southview Design to help transform their typical suburban backyard into an inviting and functional entertaining space . Their vision? A place for friends and family to hang out, unwind, and make lasting memories.

The homeowners' original wish list, which revolved around the addition of a new swimming pool, pivoted when they learned that a pool meant relocating a large, existing retaining wall. Nonetheless, they reimagined their backyard to include a sprawling entertaining patio, space for a hot tub, and even an addition for a small mudroom off the back of the home.

Slide to reveal the before and after

The clients were less than thrilled with the size and functionality of the original backyard patio. They envisioned a larger, more contemporary space for gatherings with friends and family.

Starting from Scratch

The original patio and surrounding softscape were removed to make way for the client's new and improved backyard. The mud room addition provides an additional access point, as well as an added sense of privacy and enclosure.

The Details

The homeowners opted for cut & patterned Percheron Travertine with a Greydon Sandstone Border - an option that is timeless in both design and durability. The new over-sized patio optimizes their outdoor living space, providing plenty of room for entertaining, watching Sunday football, or taking a dip in their new spa. The Bloomerang Lilac tree in the center of the patio was strategically designed not only for aesthetic charm, but to indulge the senses with vibrant purple flowers and a sweet, heady aroma.

Fun Fact

Southview Design installed the original backyard retaining walls over 20 years ago. Now, years later, we've returned to finish the job!

The Finishing Touches

The clients personalized their new backyard living space with string lights and a specially designed outdoor television. From neighborhood grill outs, to chilly fall evenings in the spa, these happy homeowners look forward to making lasting memories in their new backyard.
