SUSTAINABLE LANDSCAPING

This LEED-silver home in Minneapolis Minnesota is an example of what can be accomplished with the marriage of green technology and creative ideas. This project won an MNLA award in the “Sustainable Environment” category for the sustainable landscape design which uses boulder walls, terraces, rain gardens and a permeable paver system to capture 98% of the runoff from the roof and other hard surfaces. The level areas and gardens hold the water long enough for it to penetrate the ground.

LANDSCAPE DESIGN ELEMENTS

The award-winning landscaping features low-maintenance grasses, shrubs, and trees. Reducing the lawn area by 50% and installing zone-specific irrigation minimizes the amount of water necessary to keep the landscape healthy. A special type of permeable paver system was installed over a unique, fast-draining base. Mature trees (18-feet high) reduce heating and cooling costs by providing shade in summer, and protection from wind in winter.

Southview Design can create a sustainable plan for your landscape. With the right elements, your landscape will have a positive impact on water quality, energy efficiency, and the community.
